For your A2 exam 50% of the marks are on two questions which will expect you to discuss your coursework. By the time we get back to this you will have forgotten some of your AS coursework so it makes sense to prepare these sections while they're fresh in your minds.
All of these tasks will need to be completed to a proficient standard before you can begin your coursework planning for A2.
As with all work from now on there is a simple pass/go system. You move onto the next task when I have decided that the previous one is completed satisfactorily.
Your deadline for Tasks 1=3 being ticked off is Week 1
Your deadline for Tasks 4-5 is weak 2
Failure to meet these deadlines will lead to a poor report.
Records will be kept and parents informed

Task 1 - 1a (digital technology)
Write a clear explanation - continuous prose and not notes on the following.
Explain how digital technology was key in all areas of pre-production and post-production.
(You will need to look carefully through your website and back at your film). If your websites do not have enough information on what you have done you will have to open up your films on Final Cut/Livetype/Garageband etc and make notes on which features of the program that you have used
Explain how you planned through developing use of digital technology - websites - in terms of accessibility and communication, or how you developed your web skills, for instance in using polls on your website to generate more audience feedback. Explain all the features and tools you were able to use on your sites and how they were helpful to you.
Explain how you used digital technology at AS in the form of Livetype / Garageband/ imovie to import film / Final Cut Express to create a linear and suspenseful narrative and add effects. I want detail on this so go through all the features of these programs that you used.
Make clear the limitations of certain programs and your ability to use them at this level – e.g Garageband has a limited range of loops and Livetype has a limited number of preset animations.
Explain how your ability to use digital technology developed in your AS production whether through using new effects on Final Cut and using digital technology (internet sources) to research them, downloading new fonts on sites such as Dafont, and so on.
When you have done this you can mail it to me and I will tell you if you can move onto Task 2. Or if it needs improving.

Task 2 - using conventions from real media texts
Make a list of real media texts - films - that influenced you and how this influence can be witnessed in your AS Film. These can either be narrative conventions, representations, or technical codes. If you have a section on impact this will be easier. You will need to have at least five films with specific and relevant points of interest.
eg
1. I was influenced by The Ipcress File opening (1963). What I really liked about this was the representation of the spy underworld through realistic mise-en-scene - the type of locations that appeared in socially realistic films of the time. The locations in the film, abandoned warehouses, tenement blocks added a sense of verisimilitude and were a world away from the extravagant set designs and exotic locations of the Bond films.
email your list to me and If I agree you may then carry onto task 3

Task 3 - Planning and preparation
Explain chronologically how you planned your production in continuous prose.
Make clear what went well and what you could improve at A2.
E.G Were your storyboards sufficiently detailed?
Did you organise costume lists or prop checks?
How did you organise communication and responsibilities as a group?
Once you have written this then it can be emailed to me and I will tell you if you can move onto task 4.

Task 4 - 1b Question Genre
Read the theory on 1b on genre.
Write an essay on how theories of genre are relevant to your film.
Make sure that you use examples from your film, other films that influenced you, relevant theory and correct terminology. You should discuss your films in the same way that you would discuss a piece of TV drama in the Year 12 exam.
Genre required : (minimum)
Charles Derry - main definition and subgenre ....e.g we represented our protagonist as an 'innocent victim' through.....
Todorov - we also begin with equilibrium. The agent of change occurs when...Or, we subvert this convention by using a non-chronological narrative.....Or we began with disequilibrium to create suspense
Roland Barthes (action and enigma codes)
once this is done the essay should be emailed to me for checking to see whether you can now move onto task 5

Task 5 - 1b Question Narrative
Your final task is to prepare an essay on how theories of narrative are relevant to your film.
You will need to use and apply relevant theory and have relevant examples from your film.
Main Theory :
Todorov: equilibrim - agent of change - disequilibrium
http://www.adamranson.plus.com/TODOROV.HTM
Levi-Strauss : binary opposites is difficult, good/bad is too simplistic, you may find useful the individual/the group, youth/ maturity truth/deceit genlility/ aggression morality/immorality dark / light honour/ corruption spiritual/ material modesty/ vanity http://www.mediaknowall.com/gcse/keyconceptsgcse/keycon.php?pageID=narrative
http://www.englishbiz.co.uk/popups/opposition.htm
Charles Derry : simply explain that your narrative was designed to create suspense and use his theory to confirm how your story managed to do this through the representation of ' the innocent victim ' etc. See Year 12 site or the back of my wall!
Roland Barthes : action and enigma codes

This is a more jargon heavy explanation for the bright sparks
